Celebrating Self-Employment in June

As we reach the halfway point of 2016, now is the perfect time to reflect on the year so far. This month, we’ve been spending a lot of time discussing self-employment, flitting to and from London as we attend some fantastic events in between meetings and work!

To bring you up to speed, let us tell you about some of the highlights of the month so far…

National Freelancers Day

It’s easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day running of your business, especially as a freelancer, startup or small business owner. So it was great to join a host of independent professionals in London earlier this month, as we celebrated National Freelancers Day with IPSE.

Our founder, Kelly, spoke on a panel about what it takes to be an entrepreneur, tackling the challenges, issues and highlights of being self-employed. We also saw this year’s Freelancers of the Year being crowned, as we passed the baton to a new Aspire winner – congratulations Lauren Razavi!

Representing the self-employed

As you’ve probably guessed, we’re pretty passionate about the self-employed community, which is why it’s a privilege to join the committee for an organisation that we believe does wonders for independent professionals.

Kelly has been elected to IPSE’s Consultative Council, and will be joining her first meeting in London next month. Got an issue you’d like her to raise? Let us know – we’d love to hear from you.

Inspiring the next generation

Last week, we were delighted to speak at Nower Hill High School’s Year 12 Careers Day, as we challenged their perceptions of business and entrepreneurs, and gave them an insight into what it’s like to run your own business.

Kelly spoke at three sessions throughout the day, along with IPSE’s Education and Training Officer, and McLaren’s Digital Marketing Analyst. She was impressed at the knowledge and understanding the students already shared, and the interesting questions they asked.

Fancy a free breakfast?

What are your plans on Friday morning? If you’re a Manchester-based business, we’d love to welcome you along to MBBC for our Visitors Day. As Manchester’s liveliest networking group, it’s a fantastic opportunity to meet likeminded business owners, with a delicious free breakfast to boot!

The summer may be flying by in a flash, but we’re thoroughly enjoying the season so far as we celebrate self-employment at events across the UK. Our copywriters are also working hard on some exciting projects, from new websites to email campaigns and everything in between, which means it’s a busy month here at Making You Content HQ.
